Moriarty food tour: The best bites around town

Chili Hills Restaurant in Edgewood

Chili Hills Restaurant in Edgewood

When our customers have their cars in our shop, they often ask us for recommendations for good restaurants around town, so we thought we’d create a handy guide to our favorites.

We love supporting mom-and-pop establishments in and around our community, especially when they have to do with food! Working and living in Moriarty, we’ve had the chance to sample lots of great cuisine.

In our experience, the best restaurants are the ones that locals flock to time and time again, make a memorable impression on tourists, and offer warm customer service and down-home cooking for tired truckers.

Whether you’re passing by our stomping grounds for work or play, pay a visit to one of these time-tested food joints. Your stomach will thank you!

Nacho’s Mexican Food (Moriarty)

904 E Ctrl Ave
Moriarty, NM 87035

(505) 832-0857

In our opinion, Nacho’s is the best local restaurant. In fact, Nacho’s serves the best Mexican food by far in the state of New Mexico.  However, the restaurant is not for the faint of heart because the cuisine is muy caliente.

If you are going there for lunch, expect a wait to find a table, since all the locals rush there for lunch. In fact, Nacho’s is full most of the day, if that gives you any indication as to how wonderful the food and service are.

Try their enchiladas if you’re not sure what to get.

Shorty’s Bar Be Cue (Moriarty)

1202 West Route 66 Main St
Moriarty, NM 87035

(505) 832-0400

Craving some BBQ? Then Shorty’s Bar Be Cue will more than give you your fix – along with all the fixin’s! Shorty’s Bar Be Cue is one of the last places in the country that still makes broaster chicken, or chicken deep fried under pressure (trust us, it’s delicious).

Located on historic Route 66, this mom and pop restaurant is known for its melt-in-your-mouth chicken, from its famous broaster chicken to chicken fried chicken. BBQ dishes like the BBQ beef sandwich and ribs are also good bets.

Complement your meal with their tangy cole slaw or rich and smoky BBQ beans.

Sombrero Grill and Bar (Moriarty)

Hwy 41
Moriarty, NM 87035

If you’re looking to have a drink with your meal, Sombrero Grill and Bar is the only place around that’ll serve you a cervesa while you eat.

Sombrero’s offers mouth-watering steak and enchiladas, and their green chili burger is a must for any burger lover. The best part about Sombrero’s is you can get just about anything. So if you want a steak but your husband wants Mexican food and your children want burgers, this is definitely the place to go!

Chili Hills Restaurant (Edgewood)

5 Hwy 344
Ste 5
Edgewood, NM 87015

(505) 286-9202

Chili Hills Restaurant is a popular cowboy hangout, but just about anyone who enjoys hearty homemade food will like this small diner. The restaurant was started by local Ralph Hill and his wife, Susan.

Traditional New Mexican cuisine such as chiles rellenos, tacos, and enchiladas as well as all-American classics like fried chicken and steak and eggs populate the menu. Every now and then the chef will have a theme night and the restaurant will serve ethnic cuisine.

This place is known for its great service – the waiters and waitresses top off your coffee without any prodding.

Here at 2nd to None Service, we try to make your repair experience comfortable and enjoyable. If you’d like more restaurant recommendations or suggestions for where to stay, just say hi to us at the shop! Visit our website for contact info.
